SUMMARY:

This position will be responsible to support planned projects/improvements and identify opportunities for continual process improvements for #8 Paper Machine operations in the Easton Mill. The incumbent will design and implement solutions for these improvements using sound engineering principles, including Six Sigma methodology, that result in one or more of the following: improved product quality, less waste, reduced cost, improved reliability, increased efficiency, increased speed, improved employee safety, employee education and training, improved environmental status and greater overall system capability. 

Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes in industrial plant by performing the following duties. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Study and optimize all unit operations, including stock preparation, forming, drying, winding, and slitting, etc.
  • Aid in design of all process related capital projects.
  • Aid in development of Control Plans that result in higher CpK values on all key products families.
  • Resolve customer complaints related to process issues as appropriate.
  • Identify required capital needs for process improvements, aid in their design, and coordinate their start-up.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Confers with Research & Develop Department and Quality Department to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Other duties may be assigned. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) or (M.S.) in Paper Science or Engineering from a college or university; and two to three years related experience and/or training in a paper manufacturing environment.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, or equivalent skill and knowledge.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Oracle.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact with individuals at all levels, both internal and external.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Participates in research and development activities linked to new product development initiatives using established mathematical and scientific techniques.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead product or process development projects.

 SUMMARY:

This position provides supervision and leadership for electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical maintenance activities. Directs electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation installations and maintenance functions, ensuring a high level of manufacturing effectiveness.

  • Provides Leadership in all Maintenance areas.

  • Experience in maintaining departmental budgets and management systems.

SUMMARY:

The Controls Engineer is responsible for implementing operations and capital improvement activities related to plant and equipment. This position leads process control and instrumentation upgrades and modifications, ensuring a high level of manufacturing effectiveness. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages projects for safety, quality, productivity, asset reliability, process improvement, cost reduction and other business objective improvement.
  • Projects from initial concept and scope development through design, procurement, construction/installation and start-up.
  • Designs and drafts systems of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls for machines and equipment such as programmable controllers.

  • Utilize your background in Electrical Hardware, Automation Systems, and Process Control Systems. Specifically, a high level of proficiency in Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/Compactlogix/SLC 500/PLC 5, PLCs, Kinetix Servo systems, FactorytalkView SE/ME applications, configuring and setting up Powerflex DC/AC VFDs, DeviceNet and ControlNet, Ethernet communications.
  • Support the planning, prioritizing, and reviewing the technical plans for engineering/maintenance of the production and facility equipment including the preparation of project plans, schedules, budgets and proposals.
  • Troubleshoot issues with the Rockwell Systems – SCADA, MES, PLCs, VFDs and Servos, IO and Safety Devices.
  • Be proficient in Software Development - PLC programming, IO Configuration, SCADA/HMI programming and computer communication systems and network protocols – Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet.
  • Prepare system integration plans, system specification, system architecture drawings, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, equipment tag list, configurations, HMI screens, and a bill of materials.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing services; identifying resource needs; reviewing needs,  allocating resources accordingly, and effectively communicating action plans/repairs.
  • Participate in the development of control policies and procedures and making recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures.

  • Maintains all ISO & QS requirements. Works closely with the Quality Department and Process Engineer in promoting quality and efficiency improvements.
  • Actively demonstrate adherence to all plant and departmental policies, to recognize and correct behaviors inconsistent with these policies and to work with the crew leaders to demonstrate a zero tolerance to behaviors inconsistent with these policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be a certified as a Master Electrician in Massachusetts.
